It has been proven in recent studies conducted that processed milk is very detrimental to your health, but raw milk on the other hand is believed to be of great benefits to your health. It is now know that raw milk will help to stimulate your immune system and help you to combat viral infections, such as; common cold and influenza. The study was recently published in The Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology and it is believed that raw milk is particularly beneficial to growing children.
In a project code named “PASTURE”, researchers examined the difference between the use of processed milk, boiled farm-fresh milk and raw milk. The study was conducted with pregnant women involved, these women were said to reside on farms located in the central part of Europe. The findings of the study suggested that raw milk had more benefits to the women that were placed on it, even more so than the processed milk given to a group of test subjects amongst the women studied. Those women given raw milk has better built up immunity from common cold and flu symptoms, than those women given processed milk.
This is because there is a distinct similarity between raw milk and breast milk and the former helps to provide just like breast milk, potent health benefits to babies, as it is capable of reducing the levels of C-reactive protein in the babies, which is known to be responsible for inflammation, but processed milk on the other hand will cause an increase in the level of C-reactive protein and inevitably increase inflammation in infants.
Processed milk is believed to cause the following health problems:
- Rhinitis or runny nose
- Otitis or ear infection
- Respiratory tract infections
However, raw milk can combat these health problems caused by inflammation, as they don’t cause inflammation.
Commercial milk vs Raw Milk
Commercial milk is also believed to cause inflammation, as they do not reduce the C-reactive protein, unlike what obtains when raw milk is consumed. This leads to an increased risk of fever in infants and children, raw milk will decrease the risk of respiratory tract infection and fever in infants and children by as much as 30%.
Dr. Ton Baars of the Research Institute of Organic Agriculture in Germany who is the senior researcher for milk quality and animal welfare stated that raw milk will also protect infants and young children from allergies and asthma as well, in addition to respiratory tract infections and fever.
Unpasteurised milk is seen as a great protecting agent against allergies on infant and young children. In another study by Dr. Mark Holbreich on the Amish people, it was discovered that most of the milk consumed by these people is unpasteurised and this has given them added protection against asthma and allergies.
