When experiencing a congestion, sometimes it feels that the clear and easy breathing is just a wishful thinking.
But don’t reach for the medicine cabinet just yet, there are natural home remedies that can effectively relieve this condition, especially when the reason is a common cold.
The following remedies can help you with the most irritating symptoms:
Spicy Cider Decongestant and Expectorant
- Half a tablespoon of cayenne pepper
- Half a tablespoon of powdered ginger
- three tablespoons of organic honey
- 1/4 cup lemon juice
- 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
First, pour the apple cider vinegar and lemon juice in a pot, when combined they cause a simmer reaction. Then add the dry ingredients: cayenne, honey, and ginger. The amounts shown in the recipe are given to serve you as a guide, you can define the amounts to fit your personal taste. Take a glass jar and pour the mixture. Store the jar in a cool and dark place. Before use shake the jar, and drink from the solution 1-2 tablespoons every day. You can warm the solution before drinking it, but it’s not necessary.
Three-Ingredient Cough Syrup
- 3/4 cup of raw unfiltered honey
- 1/4 cup olive oil (for better results use extra virgin)
- 2-4 tablespoons of lemon juice
Combine all of the ingredients and store the mixture in a jar. Keep the mixture in the fridge for up to six weeks. Every time you get stuffy sinuses drinks half a teaspoon of the syrup.
Herbal Cough Syrup
- Three cups filtered water
- 1/4 cup licorice root
- 1/4 cup wild cherry bark
- 1/4 cup mullein leaf
- 1 tablespoon of cinnamon in powder or you can use 1 stick of cinnamon
- 1 tablespoon ginger root
- 1 cup raw unfiltered honey
- 1/4 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice
Put all of the ingredients in a saucepan and add water. Wait for the mixture to boil, and let it simmer for 20 minutes. Then remove it from the heat and let it cool down. Filter the liquid from the herbs, you can add lemon juice or honey to improve the flavor. Like the last one you need to let it rest in the fridge for 6 weeks. When needed, drink half or a whole tablespoon of it every half hour.
Radish Syrup
- 5-6 radishes
- 1 cup honey
- 1 cup lemon juice
- 5 or 6 garlic cloves
- 1 small red onion
Cut the onion and radishes into small pieces and put them in a blender. Blend them well until you get a smooth paste. Then add the lemon juice and honey and blend it some more. Pour it into a jar and store it for one week.
When you feel congestion, drink one or two tablespoons twice a day. In this way, you will remove secretion within 24 hours.
Essential Oil Vapor Rub
- 1/4 cup coconut oil
- 1/4 cup Shea butter
- 10 drops lemon essential oil
- 5 drops tea tree essential oil
- 20 drops peppermint essential oil
- 25 drops eucalyptus essential oil
Mix the coconut oil and the shea butter for half a minute in order to make a homogeneous paste. Add the essential oils and keep on whipping until it is well-mixed. Keep it in a glass jar with a tight lid.
When you feel that a cold is coming, rub a small amount of the paste onto your back and chest. Also, you can add the mixture to boiling water and inhale the steam
