The bra was lauded to be a great invention and have made the lives of many women more comfortable. But recent studies and reports showcase that wearing bra is harmful for your breasts. On October 13th, the National No Bra day was celebrated. This was aimed at improving breast cancer awareness among women and also educate on the negative effects of wearing a bra.
A recent study conducted at the University of Franche-Comte conducted by Jean Dennis Rouillion, who is a professor and sports science researcher here, which looked to explore the pros and cons of wearing a bra. This long study was held for Fifteen years and was conducted on 330 women, who were between the age of 18 and 35. These women were wearing a bra from an early age.
The results of the study were very shocking. Bras are meant to provide support to the breasts, protect the back and prevent the sagging of breasts. But the study revealed that the bra failed to perform any of these functions and on the contrary, it caused more harm to the breasts by making them saggier. Women who stopped wearing a bra midway through the study saw their nipples lifted by about 7 mm. Bras tend to interrupt circulation and women who were not wearing bras would have more elasticity because of increased collagen.
