Most of us grew up eating wheat. Yet today almost everyone seems to have some kind of allergic reaction to wheat and we are told not to eat it. We do not understand why. We see the maize fields and think that this is a natural food, so of course any bi-product, i.e. Bread, should be good for us.
But what today is no longer what it was a generation ago. A lot of wheat today is genetically modified. Genetic modification can lead to problems, there are chemicals and processes that go into the wheat DNA that we cannot even begin to understand.
But, and you may not believe this, the GM side of this is NOT the main reason why wheat is so bad for us. It is the way the wheat is harvested by certain farmers.
What is going on with wheat harvesting?
It is not only whether wheat is or is not organic, although this is a part of the problem. The biggest problem is that in the United States the methods of harvesting have become toxic. Farmers are literally drenching wheat fields with Roundup just before the harvest. They do this so that the dead and withered plants are less taxing on the harvester, and it makes harvesting easier, as well as earlier and bigger.
Is Roundup toxic?
Any pesticide is toxic, as is any herbicide. They contain glyphosate which is a deadly ingredient. Farmers do not even think about using it anymore; they spray it on to use it as a drying agent, they do it liberally and the do not worry about the harmful effects on the consumer. Of course they don’t think about you, they are only thinking about their bigger and better profits.
Studies on pesticides and herbicides
There have been many research studies on the side effects of pesticides, especially on wheat crops. According to the United States Department of Agriculture, almost all of durum wheat and spring wheat, and over 50% of winter wheat has been treated with pesticides. Farmers do this for bigger yields. Farmers talk about the practice openly, saying it is very common prior to harvest to apply Roundup. Roundup is a licensed pre-harvest weed control, but it is toxic. Farmers know it is toxic but it increases the yield, allows for an easy harvest and an early harvest.
Is all wheat bad for you?
Different people are tolerant to different things. You should avoid all wheat that has been sprayed by Roundup, which means you need to look for pure and organic wheat. Even so, with wheat, there are problems, which often result in allergies or a bad gut. Read the labels, try and stay off wheat if you can, and note too that bread is not the only food that has wheat.
Do not only avoid wheat but also avoid processed salad dressings, frozen dinners, chewing gums, canned soups, couscous, fast food and anything readymade that you do not know the contents of.
The best thing is to read labels, try and cut out all breads, avoid the above, make your own dressings, eat healthy, naturally, purely and get your fill of vitamins, nutrients, minerals, proteins and fats through other healthy foods.
