We all have friends who find a special kind of pleasure in telling everyone that they are in the gym. They like to post a selfie in their Facebook post every now and then. Studies show that this is nothing else but has an underlying psychological problem that makes you obsessed about capturing selfies.
The study was performed at the Brunel University. According to it, those who regularly brag about fitness have narcissistic traits.
‘Narcissistic traits’ is a psychological disorder that gives you pleasure from self admiration. It is this kind of behavior that causes people to create those irritating vein posts over the timeline such as “sun’s out, guns out.” The goal behind these posts is to boost your ego by getting likes and comments.
The survey had 500 Facebook-user participants. They found that the gym posers who received the largest number of likes and/or comments against their posts were desperate and craved for all the attention.
The study also found that narcissists are the ones who write more number of status updates related to their exercise routine and diet. This showed that they are using Facebook for broadcasting the amount of efforts they are putting into their physical looks.
According to the researcher, they measured specific personality traits like neuroticism, agreeableness, extroversion, conscientiousness, and openness. The researchers also concluded that the people regularly posting updates related to their girlfriend / boyfriend on their social media profiles had lower self esteem. Those who post regular updates related to their kids were found to be more conscientious (Source of the study: Brunel University).
