It is thought that the body has twelve pathways that run through and around the body, along which vita energy flows. Each pathway is associated with one of our organs – heart, kidney, liver, etc. Chinese medicine, or acupuncture, is all about releasing energy in these meridians, increasing the flow so that the organs can work to their maximum advantage.
In ancient Chinese medicine, the meridians are massaged to help release any obstructed energy. (chi) These obstructions can also be released using needles. Pushing into the point of the meridian will rejuvenate the organ.
But you don’t need to go to acupuncture to do this. You can do this on your own. With ice! No doctors, no needles, no expensive appointments. Just ice and perhaps a towel.
Many people suffer from neck pain – a sore or stiff neck. To find the pressure point of your neck use your hand and fingers until you find the tendons at the back of your neck. Feel by your neckline, it is pretty easy to find. This point is called Feng Fu.
Using ice on your neck
- Make yourself comfortable in a sitting or reclining position.
- Take just one ice cube and hold it to the Feng Fu point of your neck.
- You may want to secure it with a bandage or a scarf.
- The ice can be like fire in the beginning – it feels like a burn.
- Once you get used to it, the feeling of heat going into your pressure point is amazing. Keep it there for twenty minutes and repeat two or three times daily.
How does it help
Just like acupuncture or massage into your meridians, ice can boost your immune system, increase circulation, lift your mood and stimulate your muscles. It can also act as an anti-inflammatory and will bring down any swelling. Your muscles will relax almost immediately. Endorphins are released into the blood stream and energy levels are increased. Your entire body should feel more balanced, stronger and more stimulated.
