All nutritionist and health practitioner agree that we should avoid consuming process and fast food. Those foods has too many negative effects to our health. One of the highlight in the fast food industry lately is the expose of McDonald’s French fries processing. To be more specific, the process revealed how the ingredients use can cause autoimmune disorder, brain damage and other health issue.
The disclosure was a result of Grant Imahara’s visit to McDonald’s factory. He wanted to know what exactly McDonald’s fries are made of. What he discover was quite shocking. During the process of making the fries, McDonald’s use 15 harmful ingredients.

Hydrogenated soybean oil
This ingredient cause various health problem to those who consume it regularly. The research conducted by the Harvard School of Public Health and the hospital Brigham, showed that if people had replaced Trans-fat with non-hydrogenated polyunsaturated or monounsaturated oils, more than 100,000 heart attack case that happened in the US could be avoided.
This substance is mostly used in aquarium tank sealants, silly putty, and hair conditioner. It also contains a well-known toxic chemical, formaldehyde. This chemical can cause allergies, autoimmune disorder, brain damage, cancer, and other problems.
TBHQ or tertiary butylhydroquinone
This ingredient is used to prevent deterioration of food. The problem is, it also normally used in bio-diesel and perfume.
The disclosure of information about harmful substance in the process of McDonald’s French fries is actually the part of “Our Food. Your Question” campaign. It is McDonald’s campaign as an attempt to make nutritional information become more transparent to the customer. However, of course we as the customer would expect not only transparency but also more care and minimum harmful ingredient in our food.
