McDonald’s is the world’s top fast food chain and it has been exposed for engaging in serious malpractices by a hamburger chef named Jamie Oliver.
Chef Jamie Oliver questioned the hamburgers made by the fast food chain particularly in its North American outlets.
He had been vocal about the supposed meat fillings in the hamburgers and suggested that McDonald’s meat fillings are not actually pure meat but rather consists of the fats of animals that are washed in a chemical known as ammonium hydroxide after which they are used as hamburger fillings.
What is weird about this practice is that the USDA actually approves the use of this chemical by fast food companies because it is believed to kill any harmful micro-organisms that may be present in the meat.
However, this chemical is extremely harmful for human consumption. Chef Jamie Oliver argued that the fast food chain should let people know what they are consuming and they should stop claiming that they offer high quality products as seen on their official website where they claim that their meat products are of a very high quality.
This chef even claims that the chicken nuggets that McDonald’s sells is actually made from deep frying chicken fats, guts and skin rather than chicken flesh.
Chef Jamie Oliver had been to several interviews where he revealed these malpractices to the public and even though McDonald’s won’t admit it, it led to them changing their ways, so it seems and announcing that they have a new recipe for their burger.
Not saying that they had been feeding millions of people chemicals all this while but just suggesting that they have upgraded their burger recipes making it sound like some serious scientific research had been done, when in fact all they did was to use real meat.
This malpractices seem to be concentrated in the United States as the franchise in the U.K, Ireland and even Latin America are believed to patronise meat vendors for their supply of beef.
While focus is on McDonald’s it is worth mentioning that other fast food chains had been using ammonium hydroxide to wash their meat but it seems they too have now stopped this practice; two of these fast food chains that come to mind are Burger King and Taco Bell.
Chef Jamie Oliver’s commitment to ensuring that the world knew about the unscrupulous practice of the fast food industry has made people more aware about what they consume and this has forced these companies to retrace their processes.
