Toothpaste Vs Coconut Oil
Regular toothpaste usually comprises of chemicals that can cause more harm to your teeth and general health than you realize. Most toothpastes has the following chemical compounds.
- Sodium lauryl sulfate
- Aspartame (which is an artificial form of sweetener)
Sodium lauryl sulfate is known to cause your taste buds to have a funny metallic bitter taste.
Triclosan is believed to adversely affect your endocrine system.
Fluoride has being linked to cancer.
Aspartame will promote bacteria growth and further worsen tooth decay issues.
You can try using coconut oil to make your own homemade toothpaste that is completely natural, it will not affect your oral and general health negatively and it is more effective than your regular toothpaste. Here’s what you need and how it’s prepared.
- Coconut oil – 1/2 cup
- Lemon essential oil – 15 to 30 drops (you can also use peppermint essential oil)
- Baking soda – 2 to 3 tablespoons
Preparation And Use
- Incorporate all the ingredients in a small bowl and mix thoroughly.
- Put a small quantity on your toothbrush and brush as you normally would.
Try Oil Pulling
You can also use coconut oil in oil pulling which is a very good way of improving your oral health. To engage in oil pulling all you need to do is to put just a tablespoon of coconut oil in your mouth and swish the oil for a period of between 5 to 10 minutes and then spit it out, do not swallow as the bacteria will be trapped in the oil. If you do this regularly your oral health will improve tremendously.
