The number one GMO cookie in America is Oreo, this cookie is produced by Nabisco and consists of a chocolate wafer like sandwich with a sweetened crème filling.
It was first produced in the U.S in 1912 and has been the best-selling and most popular cookie in America since then.
Oreo cookies sold in the U.S have about 22 distinct varieties and flavours which cannot be found in other countries.
Studies have now confirmed that Oreos are highly addictive and even as addictive as cocaine as when you consume it you get a similar satisfaction akin to a drug addict.
A study was performed in Connecticut on lab rats and it was revealed that food rich in high-sugar and fat tend to stimulate the brain in a way that is similar to drugs.
Joseph Schroeder, one of the researchers stated that this could explain why people find it difficult to stop eating these foods despite the fact that they know these high sugar and fat foods are detrimental to their health.
There are other health risks from consuming Oreos as a result of its ingredients which include the following;
- HIGH OLEIC CONOLA OIL
- REDUCED IRON
- UNBLEACHED UNRICHED FLOUR (WHEAT FLOUR)
- THIAMINE MONONITRATE [VITAMIN B1]
- BAKING SODA
- CANOLA OIL
- CALCIUM PHOSPHATE
- PALM OIL
- SOYBEAN OIL
- ARTIFICIAL FLAVOR
- SOY LECITHIN
- COCOA (PROCESSED WITH ALKALI)
- RIBOFLAVIN [VITAMIN B2]
- HIGH FRUCTOSE CORN SYRUP
- SYNTHETIC FOLIC ACID
Taking a better look at some of these ingredients you will have an understanding of why Oreos are highly addictive and potentially dangerous to your health.
Synthetic Folic Acid
Derived by treating a bacteria known as Lactobacillus Casei with a variety of acids up until a synthetic form of folic acid is left.
Comprises of a by-product of rust derived from rust through a process of bombarding the rust with hydrogen and electrical current.
Sugar And Corn Syrup (high fructose corn syrup -HFCS)
In studies conducted, lab rats that were fed with HFCS had their fat content increased by as much as 300% more than lab rats that were fed with sugar derived from fruit or regular sugar.
It was also discovered that because of the high bad cholesterol level that actually fattens up the heart, HFCS can cause plaque accumulation which ultimately leads to heart disease, stroke and hypertension.
HFCS is processed by the kidneys, liver and gallbladder and can be detrimental to the liver causing a fatty liver condition which greatly affects the livers ability to properly eliminate toxins from the body. It is also known that HFCS has a very high mercury content which can cause irreversible brain as well as nervous system damage in young children.
This is a chemically produced product meant to taste just like vanilla. It usually consists of corn syrup and sugar.
It is a known fact that about 93% of soy is genetically modified.
The Soy lecithin in Oreos can lead to infertility, behavioral and cerebral abnormalities and even breast cancer.
This oil which is derived from soy that is genetically engineered is very rich in phytoestrogen which are known to imitate the natural estrogen in the body and consuming high amounts of this oil can lead to low libido, infertility, uterine fibroids, endometriosis and even breast cancer.
Soybean oil also has Goitrogens which are known thyroid suppressants. It also contains Phytlates which can hinder mineral absorption in the body.
Soybean oil has a compound that hinders the proper digestion of protein known as Trypsin.
High Oleic Canola Oil
Canola oil is a genetically engineered plant which was developed from the Rapeseed plant in Canada. This oil is high in monounsaturated fats while being low in polyunsaturated fats which help to prolong the shelf-life of certain products and Oreos being one. However, GMO products are notorious for having high traces of pesticides and herbicides in them which can lead to serious health problems when consumed over time.
The adverse consequence of consuming calcium phosphate include;
- Stomach upset
- Loss of appetite
- Mental/mood changes
- Increased urination
- Fast/pounding heartbeat
- Unusual weight loss
- Increased thirst
- Change in the amount of urine
- Bone/muscle pain
- Trouble breathing
- Severe dizziness
