It is not uncommon for a person to drop cubes of sugar in a small tea cup to sweeten their favorite beverage. What you may not know is that that sugar you are consuming is actually causing more harm to your body than good.
You might be saying to yourself at this point that you will stop adding sugar to your beverages, but what of those cornflakes, oatmeal, candy bars and other sweetened foods you are used to consuming?!
It is estimated that an average American consumes not less than 32 teaspoons of sugar in just one day.
It means that in a week 224 teaspoons of sugar will be consumed, this is alarming! Here are some health concerns you should be aware of:
- You stand at a higher risk of liver damage when you consume sugar regularly. Sugar or fructose acts in the same way as alcohol and the liver get overloaded with fructose that can eventually damage it.
- When you consume sugar regularly, you tend to eat more as fructose has a way of tricking your body’s metabolism by reducing your feeling of satiety. When you consume more sugary meals you could have insulin resistance and stand the risk of being diabetic.
- By eating sugar regularly you are at a higher risk of metabolic dysfunction syndrome. This health concern can lead to a myriad of problems such as high bad cholesterol (LDL) levels, low good cholesterol (HDL) levels, high blood pressure, excessive weight gain, obesity, high blood sugar levels and elevated triglycerides.
- With consuming sugar regularly, you raise the levels of uric acid in your blood and out yourself at risk of kidney disease and failure, as well as cardiovascular problems like stroke and heart attack.
