When you defecate, your stool represent what is left of the food after all the nutrients absorbed by your body. Excretion is essential for your health because that’s how unneeded waste expelled from your body. The appearance and the smell of poop can give you a hint of what’s really going on inside your body.

Shade of the Stool

Brown

Bile produced in your liver cause the stool to be brown. This shows that you are fine.

Green

This can happened when you east too much green leafy vegetables or greed food coloring.

Yellow

This color shows excessive level of fat. It can happen because of malabsorption disorder like celiac disease.

Black

If your stool are black it means that you are bleeding internally, as a result of ulcer or cancer. Some vitamins that contain iron or bismuth subsalicylate can be cause this type of stool. If you worry about this, then you can consult to yoru doctor.

Light-colored, white or clay-colored

This can caused by some medicines. You better see your doctor in case your stool are in this color.

Blood-stained or red

This can be a symptom of cancer. Visit your doctor if you find blood in your stool.

It usually takes 1-3 days for the food you consume from the time you eat it till it excrete from your body.

Stool contains of bacteria, dead cells, undigested food, and mucus.
