While there has been a rise in the number of products emanating from China in recent years, it’s not all the products that have been deemed as safe for human consumption.
Did You Hear Of Plastic Rice?
This was rice that was made from plastic and was on the rise in China and other Asia countries even finding its way as export to Africa.
The dangers of ingesting just a minute amount of plastic can be catastrophic let alone a whole bowl full. It is known that the BPA (chemical) in plastics tend to imitate estrogen and this hormone goes out of control in the body when the BPA is consumed. In effect eating plastic rice can lead to breast cancer in women.
This should really make us weary of food that comes from China as they seem to compromise on basic health standards in order to produce cheap products which may be easy on the pocket and our income in the short-term but are extremely harmful to our health and eventually our income by way of medical bills for the treatment of severe ailments in the long-term.
Here are 10 foods you probably did not know are being imported from China.
1. Toxic Tilapia Fish
The Tilapia fish farmed in China are highly toxic and a risk to our health. These are fake green peas that are actually made from soy beans and snow peas. They also use green dye as well as sodium metabisulfite (which is a chemical that is used as bleach and a preservative). This dye is carcinogenic and has been prohibited in most Western countries. When boiled these “peas” tend to discolour the water, turning it green and they soften really quickly.
Industry and health experts in the U.S are concerned by the quality of chicken shipped into the country from China. As China is known to use pesticides in very high amounts which can contaminate the meat and there has been several outbreaks of avian influenza as well.
8. Chinese Plastic Rice
Well these are made from synthetic resins and potatoes. When the rice is boiled they remain hard and they basically don’t cook like regular rice, they are also carcinogenic.
– Herbs And Salt
9. Chinese Mud (Which Is Peddled As Black Pepper)
It gets scary!
Some companies are known to peddle mud as black pepper and even flour as white pepper. Standards are really compromised in China and these fake products find their way into the U.S.
Companies in China have been selling industrial salt as table salt for decades and the former is hazardous to human consumption. It can cause reproductive system problems as well as hypothyroid disorders.
It is paramount for regulatory authorities in the U.S to take a very strong stance on China imports to ensure that the U.S market is not flooded with fake and sub-standard products which are detrimental to the health and wellbeing of the people.
