One processed meal that is common in the homes of people around the world is noodles. In mist hones you can find adults and children consuming this processed food, however scientists have shown that noodles may have far reaching health implications. Doctors from the Massachusetts General Hospital had a very tiny camera placed in the gut of a test subject who had just consumed a bowl of noodles and what they saw was startling! It was observed that after several hours in the patients gut, the noodles were unchanged and because noodles have no essential nutrients, it is of no benefit as a food which can aud nutrient absorption in the body. Instead noodles are packed full of toxic and extremely harmful additives, such as; TBHQ (toxic preservative tertiary butyl hydroquinone).
The noodles offer no health benefits, this TBHQ is a petroleum by-product that is used in so many processed foods, such as; McDonald’s chicken nuggets, Red Baron frozen pizza, Kellogg’s CHEEZ-IT crackers, Teddy Grahams, Wheat Thins crackers, Taco Bell beans, , Reese’s peanut butter cups and so on. TBHQ is also seen in pesticides, perfumes, cosmetics, varnishes and lacquers.
However, this chemical compound is approved as been safe for human consumption provided it is within the limits of between 0 to 0.5 mg\kg of the human body weight. This was accentuated at the 19 th and 21st meeting of the Joint FAO\WHO Expert Committee on Food Additive. The Codex commission on the other hand puts the limits of TBHQ in foods as between 100 to 400 mg\kg which according to them, will depend on the type if processed food. The FDA states that the oil and fats content of TBHQ foods should not be above 0.02%.
Ailments Caused By TBHQ
It is believed by several bodies like the Journal of Nutrition and EWG that this compound can cause the following ailments and health conditions;
- Reproductive organ problems
- Liver disease
- Metabolic syndrome
It is further believed that eating a meal of noodles for two times in a week will increase a person’s risk of metabolic syndrome by as much as 68%, also along with this health condition, the person will have an increased risk of high blood pressure and hypertension, increased bad cholesterol (LDL), reduced good cholesterol (HDL) levels and a higher risk of weight gain and obesity.
Noodles increases a person’s risk of cardiovascular problems, like stroke and a heart attack. It also can cause diabetes and it significantly reduces a person’s absorption of vital minerals and vitamins, such as; protein, iron, calcium, potassium, phosphorus, niacin, vitamin A and C.
Recent studies by the KFDA (Korea Food and Drug Administration) has shown that noodles, particularly from the brands they had tested, which was six (6) in number, had a carcinogenic compound known as Benzopyrene. Monosodium glutamate which is also in noodles is an excitotoxin which is known to cause brain damage as it gets the nerve cells oveeexcited. It can also be responsible for degenerative diseases of the brain and nervous system, such as; Alzheimer’s, Lou Gehrig’s and Parkinson’s disease.
Noodles causes inflammation of the joints which can lead to arthritis, gout and rheumatism. Coupled with the fact that it has completely unnatural ingredients that can also cause indigestion and constipation issues. You should avoid consuming noodles and instead stick with whole grains like rice.
