It is common knowledge that sleep is essential for good health. But what is not known is what happens to the body when you don’t sleep properly. Sleep helps the body in restoring its health. But good sleep remains elusive for many people. There is way of sleeping with sock on your feet. Let’s find out how good that method is.
Is it good to sleep with socks?
When you wear socks, your feet become warm. This causes the blood vessels to dilate. The brain then gets the signal to sleep. The faster your blood vessels dilate, the faster you will sleep. Also, when the body is warm, it will try to cool itself down. This also helps in sleeping faster.
Health benefits of sleeping with socks:
Prevents night sweat:
Socks regulate body temperature at night. The body becomes warm first, and then it cools itself down. This temperature difference prevents night sweat and hot flashes.
Helps those with Raynaud’s disease
In this disease, the individual’s body reacts abnormally to cold conditions. It can even lead to necrosis or death of a person. So wearing socks keeps them warm and prevents the attack.
Helps with dry skin
In winters, people wake up with dry, cracked feet. It causes aesthetic trouble and soreness. So apply a moisturizer and wear socks and sleep. It prevents dry feet and keeps you warm too.
If you have fever, wear socks soaked in apple cider vinegar. This increases blood flow and brings down fever. It also boosts the immune system.
Wear socks. Put mustard seeds on them and wear another layer of socks. This will prevent cough.
Keeps your feet warm
Apply some red pepper or cayenne on your feet and wear socks. It has the same effect. It warms your body and dilates the blood vessels. How warm you get varies between people. It also depends upon how much pepper you put.
What kind of socks to wear
Hygiene is very important when you wear socks. Always wear a fresh pair. Do not wear those which you wore through the day. It can lead to bacterial and fungal infection. After removing the socks, wash your feet and dry them well.
Do not wear socks which are too thick. This does not allow air flow. Your feet will start sweating. Sweating can cause infection. Wear socks made of natural material and which are not too thick.
Other ways of sleeping better:

Keep an electronic fan next to your bed. It will keep outside noise at bay. The gentle wind blowing on your face will also help you sleep better and lets your drift off into getting sweet dreams.
Reduce the light exposure
Do not expose your eyes to harsh light of phones, laptops or TV just before you sleep. Even if you do, set low light levels in your room. Lesser light helps you drift into your sleep better than a completely dark room.
Take a hot bath
Taking a hot bath increases your body temperature. Then it will try to cool off. This temperature regulation helps you sleep better. Have a warm bath for 20-30 minutes, 2 hours before you go to sleep. The steep decrease in body temperature will drift you off into good sleep.
Avoid having your daily dose of stimulants if you want to sleep well. Stimulants will keep you awake for longer and disturb your sleep. Coffee and other high caffeinated products are one type of stimulants. Other one is nicotine. People think that smoking helps them relax just before sleeping. But it is not true.
Do not eat heavy food
Avoid eating heavy food before you sleep. This is because your digestive system has to work harder to digest your food. This will prevent you from sleeping well. Having alcohol may put you off to sleep, but it will not be a deep one. Alcohol or any liquid will make you get up at least once during the night to empty your bladder.
