People tend to sleep in all sorts of positions, some sleep on their backs, others on their bellies, while for some sleeping on their right side is their preferred sleeping position.
However, Dr. John Douillard believes that sleeping on your left side is the best sleeping position.
Here’s why he thinks so:
Lying On Your Left Side Helps With Lymph Draining
Dr. Douillard states that the body’s lymphatic system is predominantly on the left side of the body. So when there is a congestion of your lymphatic system it is advisable to lie down on your left side for lymph drain to occur away from your spleen and heart which are also on your left side.
It Aids Digestion
According to Dr. Douillard of LifeSpa believes that sleeping on your left side helps your digestion. He believes that after eating if you lie on your left side for about 10 minutes you will have less likelihood of indigestion, bloating and constipation.
It Reduces Pressure To Your Spine And Helps Your Breathing
It is believed by Joint Essential that when you lie on your back during sleep you put a lot of pressure on your hips and upper back while your lower back remains suspended. They believe that this position can be really harmful to your health. If you sleep on your stomach according to Joint Essential you put pressure on your neck and lower back. You should sleep on your left side to promote your breathing by improving the flow of air to your lungs.
Another sleep researcher Dr. Steven Park however states that changing your present sleeping position could be detrimental to your health as it means you are altering a habit that your body is already used to.
